Folktales

Folktales exist in every society because they entertain, teach, and preserve culture and language. In the Himalayan region, communities such as the Gurung, Magar, Newar, Tamang, Rai, and Limbu have long cherished their folklore, which reflects their values and ways of life. These stories often carry deep symbolic meaning, offering insight into the traditions, and worldview of the people who created them. The myths, compelling characters, plots, settings, and mystical creatures within these tales have been passed down through generations, carrying the imagination and wisdom, along with the cultural memory of their communities. Though presented here in English, these folktales originate from oral traditions, where the original languages were rich and musical. Much of this nuance is inevitably lost in translation, yet I have strived to retain their essence as faithfully as possible.
